London producer and artist Jay Prince released “Phase” last night on his SoundCloud and it’s spreading like wild. His rap style sounds a little like Kendrick Lamar with a British accent and I love it. This chill down-tempo track has soul and powerful lyrics. It is just over two minutes long but Jay manages to pack it with meaningful raps and rhymes. I actually appreciate how short “Phase” is. It feels more like a quick release of his thoughts which ends up giving his words even more authenticity. The track is a result of a studio session where Jay admitted “[I] needed to get a few things off my chest.” He truly expresses his self on a relatable level.
